Popular attractions in city center Willemstad

Willemstad is known for the Queen Emma Bridge, popularly known as the Pontjesbrug or ‘swinging old lady‘. A unique bridge that connects Punda and Otranbanda (the two districts of Willemstad). Cargo ships and oil tankers sail into the harbor of Anna Bay, a true spectacle. When the pontoon bridge is open, you can only cross with a ferry.

The most famous spot in Willemstad is the Handelskade. The colored houses are the hallmark of Curacao. Here you will find nice shops, restaurants and live music and fireworks on Thursdays.

Otrabanda is in full development. You can visit the Kura Hulanda museum and the Rif Fort here. This former fort from 1828 is now a shopping center with shops and restaurants.

It is also very nice to explore the various neighborhoods by e-scooter; punda, otrabanda, Scharloo and Pietermaai. Pietermaai in particular is known for its many nice restaurants, shops and pleasant atmosphere. Visit Mundo Bizarro, Blue Bird Café, de Heeren @ sea or Kome and experience the delicious Caribbean cuisine, cocktails and meet the locals.
